Splendours of Lake Garda & Oberammergau
In 1633, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the people of the small Bavarian village of Oberammergau swore an oath that they would perform the “Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of our Lord” every 10 years. On Pentecost 1634 they fulfilled their pledge for the first time and have continued to do so, without fail, ever since. This is your once in a decade opportunity to witness this wonderful spectacle. You will fly into Milan and spend 5 nights on Lake Garda and then travel by coach to Oberammergau spending the next 2 nights there before returning from Munich to Dublin. Envisaged day to day programme
Day 1
Depart Dublin on direct flight to Milan. Transfer to Barbarano di Salo on Lake Garda (2 ½ hours). Check in to the Blu Hotel Galeazzi (4 star) in Barbarano di Salo for dinner and overnight. Day 2 Relax and enjoy the amenities of the hotel (outdoor pool, gardens and sun terrace) or stroll to nearby Gardone Riviera (500 mts) or Salo (2 kms) away. Dinner and overnight in Blu Hotel Galeazzi. Day 3 Depart after breakfast for guided day excursion to Venice to see the major sights including St. Mark’s Square and its Basilica, the Doges Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. Dinner and overnight in Blu Hotel Galeazzi. Day 4 At leisure or take a tour yourself of Lake Garda by coach or boat. Optional visit to Verona Opera (in season – usually third week in June to end of August). Dinner and overnight in Blu Hotel Galeazzi. Day 5 Today we have a guided tour of the historic city of Verona, the setting of Romeo and Juliet and home to the renowned Opera. Dinner and overnight in Blu Hotel Galeazzi. Day 6 After breakfast we depart for Oberammergau. We stop en route for a city tour of Innsbruck. Dinner and overnight in Oberammergau or nearby Murnau (8 miles). Day 7
Today is the highlight of our trip – the Passion Play. We transfer to the Passion Play theatre. Lunch is served before the performance which begins at 14.30 hrs. and continues for 5 hours. There will be a 3 hour interval at 17.00 hrs. for dinner. Return to hotel. Category A tickets (the best seats) are included. Overnight Oberammergau or Murnau. Day 8 After breakfast transfer to Munich Airport (1 ½ hrs) for our return flight to Dublin. Departure dates and prices per person sharing
