Walking Holiday in Malaysia and Sarawak, Borneo

A completely different walking experience!  Where else can you trek along ancient Headhunters trails, through beautiful national parks and primary rainforests and see Orang-Utans, jungle waterfalls and the world’s largest single flower – the Rafflesia.  No visit would be complete without seeing the capital, Kuala Lumpur – a melting pot of cultures offering a wealth of activities, shopping and cuisine. 

Envisaged day to day programme

Day 1
Depart Dublin to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia via London or Frankfurt.

Day 2
Arrive in Kuala Lumpur and fly onwards to Kuching.  On arrival meet and greet, transfer to the Hilton Hotel (or similar), Kuching.

Day 3
Senenggoh Orang Utan/Gunung Gading Park (easy to moderate walk)
Visit to Semengoh Orang Utan Rehab Centre. Upon arrival, take a 1km walk through dipterocarp forest to reach the feeding platform.  After visit to the Orang utans proceed to Gunung Gading National Park (2 hours from Kuching), to search for the world’s largest flower – the  Rafflesia -which can grow up to one metre in diameter. The park also offers a number of attractive walking trails, through primary rainforest to jungle waterfalls.   Dinner in local restaurant. Overnight in Hilton Hotel, Kuching.

Day 4
Bako Trekking (moderate walk)
Morning depart to Bako National Park full board.  Your guide will bring you on some trails and spot some wildlife.  Overnight at Bako.

Day 5
Bako/Kuching
This morning depart Bako National Park for Kuching.  Lunch at the waterfront followed by a short walk around the Bazaar before we begin the Kuching city tour.  Afterwards depart to Damai Beach Resort.  Dinner in Buntal village restaurant.

Day 6
Sarawak Culture Village
Today visit the Sarawak Culture Village and have lunch there.  Return to hotel.  
Dinner and overnight Damai Beach Resort.

Day 7
Kuchin/Mulu Cave Tour (moderate – challenging walk)
Today we fly from Kuching to Mulu National Park. Trek to Deer and Lang Caves after which watch for the Bats Exodus.  Dinner and overnight Royal Mulu Resort.

Day 8
Mulu Cave Tour and trek to Camp 5

Morning boat to Clearwater and Wind Caves; picnic lunch by the river then continue by boat to Kuala Litut.  Arrive Camp 5 early evening. Settle in to basic dormitory accommodation.

Day 9
Ascent to view Pinnacles Camp 5 (challenging walk)

Today climb up Gunung Api to view Pinnacles. At the viewpoint enjoy a packed lunch break before descent to Camp 5 for overnight.

Day 10
Native Iban Longhouse (challenging walk)
Continue on the Mulu walking holiday by following the 11km ancient Headhunter's Trail.
Overnight in Iban Longhouse.

Day 11
Longhouse/Brunei/Kuala Lumpur

Morning boat ride followed by an overland transfer to the border town of Limbang.  Clear Immigration to enter Brunei Darussalam, one of the world’s richest countries with one of the longest surviving monarchies. City tour of Brunei Darussalam including lunch before flying from Brunei Airport to Kuala Lumpur. Transfer to Piccolo Hotel for overnight.

Day 12
Kuala Lumpur city tour including Batu Caves (important Hindu Shrine), Royal Selangor (the world’s largest pewter maker) and Batik factory.  Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure.  Overnight Piccolo Hotel (or similar)

Day 13
At leisure for personal sightseeing or last minute shopping.  Overnight Piccolo Hotel.

Day 14
At leisure before evening transfer to airport for return flight home.  Overnight Piccolo Hotel.

Day 15
Arrive Dublin.
